Kate Cruz

A mermaid with a pair of feet
screams her sufferings
into the ocean.

Her words feel like a sea snail
debriding my infected scales,
where a hook caught.

I pull myself onto a rock and scream:
Summon your own storms! Drown men like we do.

Kate Cruz lives and writes in Miami, Florida. She is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and the University of Michigan Law School. She is working towards her MFA in Creative Writing at Florida International University.
